Each one of us has different characteristics which make us different from others. In my case, I am the type of person who likes to seek adventure, and who wants to organize and manage things. My interests involve drawing and coloring different artworks which get my attention, planning an occasion or any gathering, and observing different objects and knowing how it works. Solving mathematical equations are what I really like. Even though sometimes there are difficult problems but still I never give up and I do try my best to solve it. On the other hand, subjects that are related to English or other foreign languages subject are what I dislike the most. I find it really difficult for myself to be a great writer of poems or a composer of songs. It really takes time for me to do those types of things. In my life, my greatest dreams and aspirations are to finish my college studies in Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering with flying colors, continue my studies taking up masters degree in management engineering and then practice my career and later on have my own business and then have a healthy and happy family. My course in Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering is a four years and one term course offered by De La Salle Canlubang. It is a profession wherein it applies the fundamentals of mathematics, physics, economics, and management sciences to efficiently evaluate, analyze and design industrial and manufacturing system to improve its operation. I do notice that most female students who wanted to study engineering do chooses BS Industrial Engineering as their course, this is maybe due to the female interest in works that requires analysis, evaluation and observation.

My interest to solve mathematical problems, to draw and to manage the things around me, and the fact that my father is an engineer are the motives that driven me to select my course. As we all know, engineers must be good in math for them to pass their courses because engineering courses has a lot of math subjects. Based from my interests and hobbies, I am really convinced that I should take engineering as my course for my future career.
I started nurturing those motives when I was still in kindergarten wherein I got medals in most of my math subjects and it continued up to my highschool days. When I was still in my kindergarten years, my mother always notices that I do excel in my math subjects because during those days I am always included to join different math wizards and math reviews in and out of our school. Second is when I was in my grade one, my father was working in Shangri-la plaza mall as an engineer, whenever he had vacant time or not that busy in his schedule, he do brought me to his work and shows me around. He has showed me the different machines and areas he manages and operates and because of that I became interested with those things especially those related to engineering works and so I told myself that I want to be like my father and work with that kind of field and specialization. Third, when I was in grade four up to my highschool days, I was always an officer in our class. Being an officer makes me realize a lot of things about myself. It makes me recognize my leadership skills and supervisory attitude. I was awarded a lot of recognition in leadership in my grade school and highschool years. Being a student leader, I was able to realize that I was like an engineer like my father who handle and instruct people. The motivation theory behind my choice is the expectancy theory wherein I acted in that certain way because of the expectation of the people around me, and because of the attractiveness of the outcome to myself. Being an honor student, I need to surpass the expectations of the people around me and when I surpass those expectations, it brings a beneficial outcome to me because the people will know that I am a good and a responsible student.
The learning experiences that I have undergone has brought significant changes in me was when I transferred in Laguna BelAir School during my sophomore and senior years in highschool. During that time, taking up an engineering course was already clear to me. It consequently caused me to think of taking up my course now for the reason that Laguna BelAir School is known as a non-sectarian math and science school in Laguna. Since it has a lot of math and science curriculum, my mathematical and science skills were developed and were improved. We had a lot of math and science subjects and I found it all attractive and interesting. The school really trained us well and prepared us for our college life. Most of us who graduated there also took up an engineering course or any courses which are also related to science and technology.
One of the big problems I encountered as I entered my young teenage years was when my family and I transferred in Laguna. I was in the process of going to my sophomore years when we transferred there. It is one of my big problems because I did not want to transfer in Laguna for the reason that my friends and relatives are in Pasig and I really did not want to leave them. Also, during that time I was planning to take up a multimedia course because my school in Pasig offers great training when it comes to computer and different adobe programs. Later I was convinced by my parents and did agreed to their decision to transfer in Laguna. At first, it was very difficult for me to adjust because in Pasig, I already have a lot of friends and know a lot of people there plus most of my relatives just live nearby. There are also a lot of place to hang out there, very close to the malls plus a strong cellular signal. On the other hand, in Laguna we do not have any relatives living nearby, there is a limited cellular signal, and very few places to hang out to. Most of the buildings around our village are factories of different manufacturing companies because we are living near the Laguna Technopark. I was able to adapt to the new environment after about a month or two by trying to know the neighbors around us. These things affected my behavior since we are now living in a silent and peaceful area in Laguna, I became more quiet than before. Also, now I started to appreciate more the beauty of nature and environment because there are a lot of trees in the area I live in. It influence my career of choice because since we were surrounded by factories and by the Laguna Technopark, it made me choose an engineering course for the reason that when I graduated I can apply for work to the factories around us.
Another big problem that I encountered was when I transferred in Laguna BelAir School, I cannot please everybody and I find it hard dealing with some of the students there because I came from a Catholic school and BelAir is a non- sectarian school. There was an instance wherein one of my classmates told false stories about me. She told those negative stories to my other classmates behind my back. On the time I knew about it, I started to cry because it really hurts me a lot. I thought we were good friends but in reality they treat me differently. Even though she hated me a lot, I did not have any hard feelings to her because I know that someday I can change those negative things that she thinks of me into a positive one. I was able to solve this problem by showing her that I am a good person and that she can rely on me if she has problems. We became friends when one time I saw her crying. I went close to her to comfort and cheer her up. Helping and supporting one thru her problem improves my self- confidence and self- esteem because I know I can deal and effectively handle situation related to people problem. This affects my career of choice because being an engineer or any professional person, he or she must have a lot of self- confidence to handle, solve and manage problems related to people.
My love and patience in solving mathematical equations and in discovering new things is the pervasive emotions that set in me to take my course in Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering because since I was young I really like to solve math problems and to discover new things especially when it is related to science and technology. Until now, these emotions are still prevailing in me. It is very helpful on my part because when we have exercises or quizzes in collage algebra or trigonometry class I will not pass my paper if I am not sure of my answers. I always try my best to solve those equations correctly. If I did not get the correct answer, I will solve the problem all over again until I get it right.
After all the reflections and questions I asked about myself, I found that I am the type of person who seeks adventures and new discoveries, wanted all things to be organize, wanted to solve math and science problems, who is always there to give a helping hand to people who needs my help, and obeys my parents in their decision- making. My motives, learnings, problems and solutions, and emotions affect my personality in a way that these things help me to know and discover more about myself. These things strengthen and show what my real personalities are. These personalities are relevant to my course because as an industrial engineer in the near future, I must know how to solve math and science problems, how to plan and manage things around, how to obey the instructions given by my boss, and how to understand the situation of my officemates. Starting from a scratch paper, an engineer should know how to make it a magnificent work of science and technology.
The personality theory that I could clearly relate with is the Erikson's Theory of Psychosocial Development. I can clearly relate to this because I already surpass some of the eight stages in this theory like the first stage during our birth to eighteen months, there are two possible outcomes. We can learn how to trust or how to mistrust our parents or caregivers. In my case, I learned how to trust my parents because they were so good to me and they really took care of me when I was still a baby and until today. This personality theory has to do with my career that I want to pursue in the future because in the seventh stage of this theory it is where I will continue to build my life and to focus on my career and family. As I stated in my introductory part, my dream is to have a good career and a happy family of my own. I can do those things by being successful on the seventh stage, by contributing to the world and being active in home and community.
The personality approach I could clearly relate with is the Carl Rogers Approach because in this approach childhood experience is the main determinants for a person to self- actualize. However, external conditions may stop the process of self- actualization but it can get back through client centered therapy. In my case, I chose my course because since I was young I am fond of the things which are related to science and technology and as I grow up I realize that what I like when I was young is connected to the course that I am getting today. It has to do with the career that I want to pursue today because it shows that the course I have chosen is what I really like and that it fits my skills.
The personality factor I could clearly relate with is the Conscientiousness because I am a type of person who likes to organize and to settle all the things around. I am a well discipline and a responsible student who always try my best in all the tasks that I will accomplish. It simply shows through my honorable and deportment awards that I got from my childhood and teenage years. It has to do with the career that I want to pursue because as we all know every company looks for a responsible and well discipline employee in order for them to have more clients and to have a successful business. If I am the type of person who has those things that the company is looking then it would be easy for me to find a suitable job for my course.
After having clarified myself with the different aspects of my behavior, I discover that before choosing my course, I already behave somehow like a true engineer doing planning, managing and executing engineering works and projects. One of the reason why I already acted like an engineer is because since I was young I always watch and observe how my father perform and work in the field of engineering and somehow imitate what he has been doing before. Starting today, in order for me to have a good future in my chosen career, I will try my best to behave properly and to act like a professional lady. I will study hard and practice to be more responsible person so that I will have high grades and graduate with honors and awards. I will also improve my self-confidence, self-esteem and excel in people handling and management for these are important characteristic of a good leader.
